This Excel Workbook contains three data sheets. These are:

  • Sheet Fatalities by user type;
  • Sheet number and rates (by) severity; and
  • Sheet M & F casualties 1980-07.

Contents of the data sheets are as follows

Sheet Fatalities by user type

Block A.4 to O.86 gives the number of fatalities by road user type since 1926.  This is from Transport Statistics GB 2008 Table 8.1 for 1950 onwards and Road Accidents GB 1999 Table 2 for 1926 to 1949, for the main categories of road user.  Data on more detailed categories are from Transport Statistics GB 2008 Table 8.2; TSGB 1995 Table 4.14; 1976-86 Table 2.46  Road Accidents GB 2005 Table 6c; RAGB 2003 Table 5c; 1996 Table 5c; 1975 Table 4; and 1971 Table 2. Block Q.15 to Y.86 gives the number of fatalities by user type per unit traffic (all motor vehicles) since 1938.

Sheet number and rates (by) severity

Block A.5 to AN.95 give the number of casualties by severity and type of road user since 1970.  This data is from Road Accidents GB 2005 to 2007 Table 6c; 1997 Table 5c; 1990 Table 5; and 1980 Table 4.  Block AR.5 to CE.91 give the casualty rates per 100,000 population, and block CI.5 to DG.74 gives the casualty rates per 100 million vehicle km for the appropriate road user group.

 

Block A.178 to G.261 gives the number of casualties by severity of injury (fatal, serious, killed and seriously injured KSI, slight, all injured, all severities including fatal) since 1926.  Block S.178 to AH.214 gives the numbers of casualties of various severities by user type from 1970 to 2007.

Block AB.202 to AI.206 gives the government targets for casualty reductions for the periods to 2000 and for 2000 to 2010.  Block AL.179 to AP.197 shows the casualty rates per unit traffic for all road users that relate to the casualty reduction target for 2010.

Block A.271 to S.315 gives the casualties per passenger kilometre for the period 1994 to 2006 by various modes (air, water, car, bus, train, walk, etc) for fatal, KSI and all severities.  This data is from TSGB 2005 and 2006, Table 1.7.

Sheet M & F casualties 1990-05

Block A.7 to T.26 gives the number of male fatalities by type of road user since 1990.  Block A.82 to T.101 gives the corresponding number of female fatalities.

Block A.31 to T.50 gives the number of male casualties killed or seriously injured by type of road user since 1990.  Block A.107 to T.125 gives the corresponding number of female KSI casualties.

Block A.55 to T.74 gives the number of male casualties of all severities by type of road user since 1990.  Block A.130 to T.149 gives the corresponding number of female casualties of all severities.
